Tadpole

Tadpole.
Ugly.
Disgusting creature.

Tadpole.
Deceptively unimportant.
Yet the future father
Of generations of frogs to come.

Tadpole.
I do not like you.
Yet I bear no grudge against you.
You are just part and parcel of nature.
You remain.
Whether I like it or not.

Body Parts Murder

The slain frog,
immobile,
lies unmoving
on the cement slab.

Eyes unblinking
stare
without seeing
into an unidentifiable space.

Green eyes
flecked with amber
glossy, they
gleam in the light.

The slain frog
lies
limp and cold,
icy to the human hand.

The slain frog
lies,
mucus covered
slime slicks fingers.

The slain frog
lies,
oblivious
of what is to come.
A knife
glints
in a
ray of sunbeam.

The knife
moves
in
silent flight.

And comes
down swift
on
the slain frog.

A leg is
separated
from
its body.

A gale
huffs
through
the shutters.

Frayed, loose, mottled
skin
flaps
in the wind.
  Elegy to our tadpoles

When the tadpole is first hatched,
It yearns for the time it would be a frog.
Subjected to various hardships,
Some managed to fufill their wishes,
While others perished in the process.
The heros and heroines have perished for a purpose,
They did the world good.
They have sacrificed for the sake of the human desire for the sake of science and technology.
We honour these heros.
The spirit of self-sacrifice will live on forever.
